I assure you it's not. Currently, there's an issue with a Windows false positive with NW.js and Electron applications. (NW.js is the container that Astra Defender uses.) You can read more about the issue here: https://github.com/nwjs/nw.js/issues/8090
I am actively looking for ways around this issue in future updates.

I might just be inept but is there a way to play specific people (ie, private match vs. a friend) in this early alpha?
Not currently, though Quick Match should put you in the same game if you join around the same time.
Also note that the server currently resets every couple of hours while I work out a bug where the server hangs after a match.
